Big shake-up in Agodi Government House! Hours after his powerful Chief of Staff quit, Governor Seyi Makinde has moved fast to fill the vacuum.
According to cbinews.tv, Governor ‘Seyi Makinde has appointed Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole, better known on the streets as Wolekanle as his new Chief of Staff.
He also named Mrs Aderonke Adedayo as the new Director-General of the Oyo State Due Process Office. Both appointments take immediate effect.
This isn’t just a title swap. Wolekanle is no Abuja politician. He’s a proper grassroots man from Oyo town, former Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Service Commission and a long-time Makinde loyalist who knows ward politics inside-out. For market women and local council workers, he’s a familiar face.
Mrs Adedayo, on the other hand, is currently Special Adviser on General Intervention and Donor Agencies. She’ll now juggle both roles, a big vote of confidence in her handling of donor funds and intervention programmes.
The appointments were confirmed in letters signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde.
It comes after Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi, Makinde’s long-serving Chief of Staff, resigned, a move that left a huge hole at the heart of government.
The Chief of Staff is the governor’s gatekeeper. He controls access, manages political interests, and keeps the engine room running. With 2027 politics already bubbling, Makinde needed a steady, locally-rooted hand, and fast.
Think of it as Oyo’s quality-control unit. The DG ensures every contract, procurement and project follows due process, no inflated contracts, no shoddy jobs. With Mrs Adedayo combining donor relations with due process, expect tighter scrutiny on how donor-funded projects are spent.
This is Makinde’s second Chief of Staff in his second term. From 2019-2023, the role was held by Chief Bisi Ilaka before Ogunwuyi took over. Makinde has a pattern of picking loyal, low-noise operators over flamboyant politicians.
Both appointees have been told to resume immediately with “loyalty, commitment and dedication.” All eyes will be on how Wolekanle manages the Agodi power balance and whether Adedayo reforms procurement timelines.
Governor Makinde has congratulated them. Oyo awaits delivery.
