From blockbuster screens to grassroots politics, another Nollywood icon just got a government portfolio in Enugu.
This one is interesting, as reported by cbinews.tv.
Veteran Nollywood star and gospel minister, Apostle Eucharia Anunobi, has just been appointed by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah as Special Assistant on Women Mobilisation for Enugu North Senatorial Zone.
And she’s not alone. She was named alongside fellow actress Rachael Okonkwo, yes, Nkoli Nwa Nsukka herself, who got the role of Senior Special Assistant on Film and Creative Industry.
The appointments were announced on Monday, September 21, in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia. It was a big list, 101 aides in total: 7 Special Advisers, 6 Senior Special Assistants and 88 Special Assistants.
Eucharia is no newcomer. Born 27 May 1965, she rose to fame in the 90s and has featured in over 90 films, including the classic Abuja Connection. In recent years, she’s been known more as Apostle Dr Eucharia, balancing acting and ministry.
This isn’t just a celebrity appointment. Anunobi will be on the ground mobilising women across Enugu North, a zone where women’s voter turnout and economic participation are crucial to Mbah’s administration.
It also follows a well-worn path in Nigeria, from Desmond Elliot in Lagos to Funke Adesiyan in Oyo, where entertainers use their public trust to drive community engagement. For women who grew up watching Eucharia, seeing her in government makes politics feel a lot more relatable.
What does a SA on Women Mobilisation actually do? Think grassroots organising, rallying women’s groups, market associations, and faith groups around government programmes, from health insurance to small business grants.
What’s next:
All eyes will be on how she translates screen influence into real mobilisation numbers. Will we see more women in Enugu North registered for state initiatives? That’s the metric to watch.
