CBI News FactCheck Says This Is Fake News
Claim Received: Image + Text — "INEC reaffirms David Mark-led ADC leadership, Atiku as candidate, via Mohammed Haruna". Source of Graphic: "By Sharon" / Dare Media — This is a partisan graphic, not an INEC press release.
It lifts the ADC logo + INEC logo.
Rights FAIL. VERIFICATION CHECK:
INEC Official Source? No press release on inecnigeria.org today. The quote attributed to Mohammed Haruna appears to recycle a July 2026 statement, not a new statement today.
What INEC Actually Said in July: Yes, INEC did say in July it gave the Mark-led faction the access code based on a Supreme Court judgment and that 471 candidates were submitted.
That is old, not BREAKING today.
What Has Happened SINCE July?- The Court of Appeal affirmed a ruling restraining INEC from recognising state congresses by Mark-led caretaker committees. Yesterday, 5th November 2026: Federal High Court Justice Peter Lifu nullified the Mark-led NWC and invalidated Atiku's candidacy. ADC has rejected it and says it will appeal.
This means the graphic you have is misleading. It presents a July position as if it is today's final position, ignoring the November 5 court judgment that nullified that same leadership.
CONTROL DECISION:
1. Verification: FAIL — No independent second source, no INEC official press release today. Recycled quote.
2. Rights: FAIL — Uses INEC logo and ADC logo without clearance. "By Sharon" is not an authorised source.
3. Right-of-Reply: NOT DONE —
