Can Lagos finally become a true mega city? ADC's Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour says it has all it takes, and he has a plan.
So, the race for 2027 has started early.
Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has laid out his blueprint for Lagos, if Lagosians give him the mandate.
Speaking on Insight 360 on CBI News TV, as reported by CBI News TV, GRV insisted Lagos has everything it needs to compete with the world's top megacities.
It’s not his first rodeo. The architect-turned-politician reminded viewers he’s been in the trenches for over a decade, from a failed local government bid under KOWA, to contesting Lagos West Senatorial seat in 2019 under the PDP, to his headline run in 2023 where he finished second as Labour Party’s candidate with over 300,000 votes.
Lagos is Nigeria’s economic engine, home to over 16 million people by official estimates, contributing nearly 30% of Nigeria’s GDP, yet battling traffic gridlock, flooding, and a housing deficit of over 3 million units. Every guber promise hits differently here because it affects your daily commute, your rent, your business.
Rhodes-Vivour is tapping into that frustration. His pitch, in essence, is about people-first governance for the everyday Lagosian, the danfo driver, the tech bro in Yaba, the market woman in Balogun.
Historically, Lagos has been an APC stronghold since 1999. Unseating the ruling party has been the big hurdle for every opposition figure, including GRV in 2023. His move to ADC is part of a broader coalition realignment ahead of 2027, with opposition figures trying to build a united front.
Positioning like this interview is about name recognition and plans. The real test will be translating TV talk into ward-level structures.
